Queen - Live at Wembley Stadium

Vor einiger Zeit wurde das wahr, wovon Queen Fans wohl seit jeher geträumt haben müssen. Das legendäre Wembley Konzert von 1985 wurde komplett und auf DVD veröffentlicht. In Teilen war es zwar vorher schon auf VHS erhältlich, doch jetzt gibt es sogar noch eine Bonus DVD dabei, mit jeder Menge Backstage Infos und einigen Konzertproben vom Tag davor.

Das Konzert selbst ist natürlich 1A, von den ganzen Hits, die Queen so in petto haben, wurden die besten rausgesucht. Los geht’s mit „One Vision“, das ich schon im Film „Der stählerne Adler“ voll geil fand; hier rockt es erst richtig ab. Mit Rock geht es auch zunächst weiter; Lieder wie „Tear it up“, „Seven seas of rhye“ und „Tie your mother down“ bringen das Publikum so richtig zum kochen, bis dann mit „A kind of magic“ oder „I want to break free“ ein paar poppigere Songs kommen.

Nach den Solos gibt’s noch ein paar Oldies a la „Tutti Frutti“ oder „Gimme some lovin“ bevor sich Freddie Mercury dann ans Klavier setzt und mit „Bohemian Rhapsody“ das Finale einleitet. Bohemian Rhapsody ist ja einer der besten Konzertsongs überhaupt und die Band hat, wie auch beim restlichen Konzert das Publikum voll hinter sich, was die Bilder eindrucksvoll beweisen, wenn die Kamera durch das restlos ausverkaufte Stadion schwenkt. Danach gibt’s noch Highlights wie „Hammer to fall“ und „Radio Ga Ga“ und das das Konzert mit „We will rock you“, „Friends will be friends“ und „We are the champions“ beendet wird, dürfte nicht groß überraschen.

Das herausragende an dieser DVD ist zweifelsohne die Produktion. Das Bild wurde komplett digital überarbeitet und ist nun kaum noch von neueren Produktionen zu unterscheiden. Besonders Leute, die die alte VHS noch kennen, werden den großen Unterschied merken. Dazu kommt noch der dts Ton, der auf der passenden Anlage auch über alle Massen durch sehr gute Direktionalität und Raumfeeling überzeugen kann. Doch Vorsicht: Der Sound liegt nicht in DD 5.1 vor. Besonders ältere Reciever unterstützen dts bisweilen noch nicht. Darauf sollte man beim Kauf achten, denn sonst gibt’s nur normalen Stereo Sound.

Last year finally came true, what Queen Fans must have been dreaming about for a long time. The complete Wembley Concert from 1985 has been published on DVD. Parts of it had already been available on VHS before, but now there is also a bonus disc included with lots of backstage information and band rehearsals from the day before.

The concert itself is of course a classic; from all the hits Queen had they picked out the best. They start with “One vision”, which I already liked in the movie “Iron eagle”, but here it really rocks! And with rock it continues: Songs like “Tear it up”, “Seven seas of rhye” and “Tie your mother down” bring the crowd into the right mood, until there come with “A kind of magic” or “I want to break free” some songs, which are more quiet.

After the “half time” with some solos there come some oldies like “Tutti frutti” or “Gimme some lovin” before Freddy Mercury starts playing the piano for the introduction of “Bohemian Rhapsody”. “Bohemian Rhapsody” is one of the best concert songs of alltime and crowd is once again going wild, which can be seen very well, because the camera often drives through the completely sold out stadium. After that there come some highlights like “Hammer to fall” or “Radio Ga Ga” and I guess nobody is surprised that the concert ends with “We will rock you”, “Friends will be friends” and “We are the champions”.

But what really makes this DVD so valuable is its outstanding production. The picture has been completely digitally remastered and is now almost on the same level as newer pictures. Especially people that have seen the old tape will recognize the difference. In addition there is the superb dts sound which provides a fantastic room feeling. But be careful: There is no DD 5.1 sound, especially older receivers might not support dts. You should check that out before buying the disc because otherwise there will be only regular stereo sound.
