Whitecross - Triumphant Return

Ich hab mal in meiner Sammlung wieder rumgestöbert und bin doch tatsächlich auf eine Christian Rockband gestoßen. Whitecross wurde 1986 in Chicago gegründet, brachten ihr Selbstbetiteltes Debut Album ein Jahr später raus. Regelmäßige Aufstellungsänderungen plagten die Gruppe praktisch von seinem Beginn, aber dem Duo von Sänger Scott Wenzel und Gitarristen Rex Carroll blieb durchweg konstant. 1988 folgte ihr zweites Album „Hammer and Nail“. Ihr drittes Album „Triumphant Return“ von dem ich eigentlich erzählen möchte, kam 1989 heraus. Das Line-up hier waren Scott (Gesang), Rex (Gitarre) und zusätzlich kamen Rick Armstrong (Bass) und Michael Elliott (Schlagzeug). Das Spezielle was Whitecross auszeichnet, ist der hohe oft lästige Gesang Scotts und dem extremen Gitarrenspiel Carrolls. Musikmässig stecke ich sie in die Ratt, Cinderella und XYZ Schiene. Es ist wirklich unglaublich, wie ähnlich Scotts Stimme mit Ratts Sänger Stephen Pearcy vergleichbar ist. Zum Teil erkennt man auch bei den Songs „Red Light“, „Shakedown“, „Over The Top“ und „Heaven´s Calling Tonight“ klare Ratt-Linien. Im Gegensatz zu „Attention Please“, „Straight Thru The Heart“ und „Down“ hier stechen doch beide heraus Ratt und XYZ. Der einzig ungewöhnliche Song, verstärkt durch akkustische Gitarren ist „Simple Man“. Klingt mir eher nach Joshua Kadison und hat eigentlich hier nichts verloren. Die einzig ruhigere Ballade ist auch der Song „Behold“. Bei beiden Songs kann man eigentlich nur die Texte näher betrachten und daran sehen, dass sie mit dem christlichen Rock etwas zu tun haben. I have rummaged in my collection again and have actually find an Christian Rockband. Whitecross were formed in Chicago in 1986, releasing their self-titled debut LP a year later. Regular lineup changes plagued the group virtually from its inception, but the duo of vocalist Scott Wenzel and guitarist Rex Carroll remained constants throughout. Scott (vocals), Rex (guitar) were the line up here and Rick Armstrong (bass) and Michael Elliott (drums) in addition came, too. What Whitecross special honors is the high often annoying singing Scotts and the extreme guitar-playing Carrolls. The musicstyle of them are into Ratt, Cinderella and XYZ. It´s really unbelievable how comparable Scott´s voice with Ratts singer Stephen Pearcy is. You will partly recognizes also the songs „Red Light“, „Shakedown“, „Over The Top“ und „Heaven´s Calling Tonight“clear as Ratt lines. Different as „Attention Please“, „Straight Thru The Heart“ and „Down“ here comes both influences as Ratt and XYZ. The only unusal Song amplified by accoustic guitars is „Simple Man“. Rather sounds for me to Joshua Kadison and has actually nothing lost here. The only smoother ballad is also the song „Behold“. By both songs you just can nearly look more at the lyrics and you see, that they have something to do with the christian rock. Simply listen to it!
