Thörbjorn Englund, the guitar magician behind Winterlong is set to releases his debut instrumental solo album entitled Influences. As the title suggests this album pays homage to Thorbjorn’s influences and covers a wide range of styles. Thorbjorn has had the desire to do an instrumental album since the first Winterlong album and it’s at this stage of his career that Thorbjorn felt there was enough quality material to realise this vision. The songs on Influences are a collection of old ideas some that date back to the very first Winterlong promo demo as well as brand compositions written especially for this album with some additional rarities thrown in such as covers of old NES game soundtracks! Anyone that has appreciated Thorbjorn’s virtuoso guitar work on the last four Winterlong albums will find Influences a great insight into what make Thorbjorn tick as a musician. On the album Thorbjorn comments, “This album sums up my style completely, both as a songwriter and guitar player. It has everything from classical stuff to the heaviest shred metal on it. To some it might even appear a bit too diverse (there are lots of different styles on this album) but I just had to get it out. Every song on it bears traces from what I have gathered inspirational-wise during the years”. Normally i don´t like instrumental-CD´s but i have to confess that the album instructed me differently. It would be even desirable to let the songs of a singer accompany. I could even imagine the Songs to a soundtrack like Braveheart or Rob Roy, at least it has to be something historical. Who like Instrumentalsongs should absolutely take a look on it.
