Tarantula is one of Portugal’s oldest heavy metal bands and was formed in 1981 from the two Barros brothers. They didn´t signed the first deal before 1987. Between 1990 and 1995 released they four albums. But only with the signing with the German label AFM Records, they managed also here in Germany to make headlines. This happened with their fifth album “Light Beyond The Dark” appeared in 2000 and was followed by the Tommy Newton produced “Dream Maker” one year later. That album should be their best what i really can´t say because i din´t listen the albums before. After a long break are they now back with their new seventh album „Metalmorphosis“ and a line-up chance. The guys Jorge Marques sings since 1989 and José Aguiar is since 1994 their bassist. I must listen the album more times. The first impression was not bad. What I notice straight off is the striking similarity, the voice of Jorge Marques with Saxons singer Biff Byford. Some songs sounds also strong like Saxon what is a kind of example for the Barros brothers it seems. On „Metalmorphosis“ sounds no song the same. Each song has his special Peculiarities, new influences and own soundparts what let the whole album sound quite interesting. . „Breaking The Barriers Of Time“ reminds me on Primal Fear a bit. „We go with the flow“, „The Bleeding Band“ and „New Tomorrow“ sounds like songs of the Metalhead album from Saxon. „Your Promised Land“ is quite mystic touched and leaves one rather good relaxing. „All In Your Eyes“ let it really crashing. Here comes bands like Metallica, The Ring or even Private Line calling to the train around only a couple of innovations. My faves are: „Sea Of Doubts“, „Far Away From God“, „Meant To Be Alone“ (very nice half-ballad) and „Under Control“. Who has still heard nothing from Tarantula can for certain get to like this album.
