Stratovarius - Dreamspace

Die finnische Band Stratovarius gibt es nun schon seit 1989 und ich, habe sie, mit ihrem dritten Album „Dreamspace“ 1994 kennen gelernt. Ich weiss noch haargenau, wie überrascht ich von ihrem Sound war. So schnelle Gitarren hatte ich bisher, nur von Yngwie Malmsteen zu dieser Zeit gekannt. Ihr Album war frisch, ein wenig experimentell und genau das richtige, um nach einem harten Tag arbeit einfach abzuschalten. Die CD ist in meinem neuen CD-Player, damals, rauf und runter geloffen und das stundenlang. Das Line-Up war mit Timo Tolkki (Gesang,Gitarre), Jari Kainulainen (Bass), Tuomo Lassila (Schlagzeug) und Antti Ikonen (Keyboard) ein eingespieltes Team. Ihr Musikstil ist nicht gerade leicht einzuordnen, ist auf alle Fälle im Powermetal bereich. Sie waren und sind einfach neu. Wenn ich vergleiche ziehen sollte, würde ich ganz klar Helloween oder Pretty Maids nennen, nur dass Strato mehr Zeit und Energie in die Texte gelegt haben. Das ganze Album wechselt von einem schnellen, zu einem langsameren Song und schafft mit diversen Nebeneffekten eine tolle Atmosphere. Was ein wenig irritierend ist, ist Timos Stimme, da sie zum Teil recht ähnlich klingt wie Rob Halfords von Judas Priest. Mir gefällt das ganz Album und nenne euch meine Lieblingssongs wie „Chasing Shadows“, „4th Reich“, „Eyes Of The World“ oder auch „Dreamspace“. Für einige wird der Sound oder auch Timos Stimme gewöhnungsbedürftig sein, aber für den Powermetal sind sie sicher eine Bereicherung.

The finnish band Stratovarius exists since 1989 and I got to know them with their third album „Dreamspace“ from 1994. I still know exactly how surprised I was of their sound. Till now, I had such fast guitars, known by Yngwie Malmsteen at that time only. Their album was freshly, a little experimental and exactly the right to switch work off after a hard day simply. At that time the CD runs hot in my new CD player and that for several hours. The Line-Up was with Timo Tolkki (vocals, guitar), Jari Kainulainen (bass), Tuomo Lassila (drums) and Antti Ikonen (keyboard) a team well-adjusted to playing together. I compare them, if I should draw it, quite clear to Helloween or Pretty Maids, only that Strato have put more time and energy in the texts. The whole album changes from a fast, to a slower song and creates a terrific Atmosphere with various side-effects. Timo's voice is a little confusing, sometimes it sounds partly quite similar as Rob Halfords of Judas Priest. I like the whole album and call you my favourites like „Chasing Shadows“, „4th Reich“, „Eyes Of The World“ or also „Dreamspace“. For some will be the sound or even Timos voice requiring habituation but for the Powermetal are they for certain an enrichment.
