English Version:
For someone, who is street-smart with the glam-scene in Hollywood, has surely already heard the name „London“. A lot of stars already played with “London” in the 80’s, so as “Nikki Sixx”, “Blacky Lawless” or “Slash”. Actually, it was no use for the band, because they were known in L.A., but the big sellings were missing. It seems to be more the fun of Sex, Drugs and Rock n Roll what the band really enjoyed.
At any rate, “Lizzie Grey” and “Tim Jay” are originally from the “London” formation, but “Timothy” was about the 13th drummer what he later told in an interview. So “Spiders and Snakes” are the descendants of “London”, actually they’re already playing music for more than 15 years now. The spiders play beautiful dirty glam on “The London Daze”, they used to be softer, but here they rock like hell.
My favourite is evidently “Nonstop Rock”, this song can really give you the sensation of being attacked of a huge deal of 80’s sleaze cult. The lyrics are probably not the most intellectual ones, but rather they treat of broads, Rock n Roll and party. A case in point is for sure “Party in Hollywood”, but unfortunately this song loses a lot of its quality. “Radio Stars” bribes with a cool melody which could easily be a catchy tune. Another highlight represents the “Mötley Crüe” cover of “Public Enemy no 1”. The “Spiders & Snakes” version is much more sleazy and faster, “Lizzie”’s voice is also very dirty. This is one of the best Crüe covers I’ve ever heard in my life. For the nostalgic persons there’s on the “London Daze” another tidbit: the last 3 songs are “Original London Demos” with „Nikki Sixx“ and „Nigel Benjamin“ from „Mott the Hoople“. Well... that’s just cool! Unfortunately the quality of the demos is horrible, but 1980 wasn’t the time where one recorded in a professional way anyway. In other respects this album is the most glam cult and at least has to be heard.
