Kivel records released already plenty of good melodicrockalbums on the market. So isn't it surprising that they continue with their high standards with the release of the Virginia hardrockband Smilek. Who knows the bands Attraction, Adrian Gale, Tour De France and thought that this albums kicked you in heaven.....well, than i just can say, you have been terribly mistaken. The first thing which you notices how similar the Sound sounds as bands like Danger Danger, Trixter und Bon Jovi. That lies mainly on Marty Smilek´s husky hoarse voice but also with the right feeling the music is mixed from Countryrock, blues parts with a firm shot to melodies. The songs are continuouse fluently, in the mid-speed and very nice refrains that are easy to remember and being able to occur to one now and then. The band puts a lot of feeling, sentimentality and beautiful guitars, drums and bass sounds into every song purely. So-called fellow travellers for my concepts are „Christened By Fire“, „Almost There“, „Devil´s Dance“ and „Tears Of Blood“. All very great arena rockers and keep the whole album in swing. To „Sentimental Highway“ and „Shot Of Your Love“ are the audience included with the higher getting refrain as you would have the feeling to take off into the air and to get further used. „Heartbeat In A Heart“, „Don´t Say Goodbye“ and „Lay Down Your Guns“ are nice ballads which let fast young girls in the first row of pre-storms to don´t miss anything there. With „Roxy“ it goes sweepingly ahead. Here it is very unbelievable how close Martys voice sounds as Jesse Harte (Southgang), Peter Loran (Trixter) or even Paul Lane (Danger Danger). And it could also smoothly feel further with Trixter....“Walk In Line“ and „Vain“ listen it yourself! At „Feel The Fire“ comes quickly songs in my head from Lillian Axe, Poison and Firehouse. Quick speed with catchy refrain. Really to telling no nonsense the monkey randy voice of Marty Smilek let everyone jumping into the air, in front of friends. I would be glad if i had such a voice. An really extreme tip of me!
