Poison - Swallow This-Live

Poisons live Album ist in zwei Ausführungen erhältlich. Einmal als Single Disc und einmal als Doppel CD, die, wie damals üblich, noch in einer mächtigen Doppel CD Hülle erschienen ist, die im Regal schon einiges her macht. Das Konzert, das hier mitgeschnitten wurde, wurde bei der Flesh&Blood Tour in Orlando/Florida aufgenommen. Produktion und Abmischung sind exzellent gelungen. Das Publikum ist gut drauf und wurde immer so reingemischt das es noch zu hören ist, die Musik aber immer noch im Vordergrund steht. Bret Michaels legt sich ordentlich ins Zeug und leistet sich stimmlich nicht einen einzigen Ausfall.

Die Songauswahl ist auf der Doppel CD reichlich und beinhaltet die größten Hits der Band. Los geht’s mit „Look what the cat dragged in“ und „Look but you can’t touch” und endet nach guten eineinhalb Stunden mit, wie sollte es anders sein, „Nothing but a good time“ und „Talk dirty to me“. Dazwischen gibt es noch den „Poor Boy Blues“, der auch ganz nett anzuhören ist. Sicher sparen können hätte man sich das 10 Minuten guitar solo von Virtuose C.C. Deville, der seine Sache wohl gut macht, aber bestimmt nicht zu den Meistern seines Faches gehört.

Die besondere Würze von „Swallow this live“ liegt in den vier bisher unveröffentlichten Studiotracks. „So tell me why“ ist meiner Meinung nach der beste Song den Poison je gemacht haben, obwohl er ein ziemlich grottiges Video bekommen hat. Und auch die anderen drei brauchen sich gewiss nicht verstecken.

Poisons live Album kann man bedenkenlos jedem empfehlen. Die ordentliche Konzertauswahl mitsamt der gelungenen Produktion liefern immer wieder eine gute Erinnerung an die Zeit als der Glamrock die Welt beherrschte. Lediglich schade, dass Poison für ihre live DVD nicht auch dieses Konzert gewählt haben.

Poison’s live album is available in two versions. Once as a sigle disc and once as double CD, which has a really huge double CD case, which was a common thing in the beginning of the nineties. The concert on this CD was recorded during the Flesh&Blood tour in Orlando/Florida. The production in excellent. The crowd is making some noise and it is always mixed in in a way that it is hearable but the music has always first priority. Bret Michaels is giving a hundred per cent and and his voice is always on top.

The song selection on the double disc is enormous and contains the band’s greatest hits. The party starts with „Look what the cat dragged in“ and „Look but you can’t touch” and ends after about 90 minutes with, could it be any different, „Nothing but a good time“ and „Talk dirty to me“. In the meantime comes the “poor boy blues” which is very nice to listen to, too. Quite unnecessary is surely a ten minutes guitar solo of C.C. Deville, who does a good job, but is not one of the masters in guitar playing.

The special thing about “Swallow this live” are the four new studio tracks. “So tell me why” is in my opinion the best song Poison have ever done, although the video isn'’t any good at all. And the other three tracks are quite good, too.

Poison’s live record can be recommended to everybody. The good choice of the concert along with the great production always provides great memories of a time in which glamrock ruled the world. It’s a pity that Poison didn’t choose this concert for their live DVD as well.
