Novella - One Big Sky

Möglicherweise gibt es den ein oder anderen, der schon mal was von der Band Novella gehört hat. Die amerikanische Band stammt aus New Jersey und wurde von Sänger/Gitarrist/Keyboarder Jonathan Pagano, zusammen mit den Herren Jon Spinola (Bass) und Adam Gibson (Schlagzeug) gegründet. Ihre Musik kann man als Mainstream Rock mit vielen Einflüssen bezeichnen. Einige sind aus dem Bereich des britischen Rock und andere sind typisch amerikanisch, sogar ein bisschen Indie Rock könnte man auch sagen. Eine bestimmte Band hier zu nennen wäre für mich etwas schwer, die einzige die mir hier einfällt wäre Black Sabbath und eher die sehr alten Songs. So richtig warm werde ich nicht mit dem Album. Es sind wirklich ein paar gute Ansätze in der Musik zu hören, jedoch flacht das Ganze entweder vorn herein schon ab oder erst in der Mitte des Songs. Hier wären die Songs „Fire Eyes“, „I Need You“, „Who Are We To Say“, „Sweet Rising Sun“ und „Big Sky“. Sehr melodiös und rhythmisch gehalten sind dagegen „Do We Just Surrender“, „Running Home“ und „Give Me Love“, wobei man die ersten beiden Songs schon einmal in diversen Radios und Diskotheken hören konnte, auch wenn man nicht wusste, dass es Novella war. Der Song „Lay It On Me“ gefällt mir überhaupt nicht und hätte auch weggelassen werden können. Das Album hätte ich mir besser vorgestellt, aber 1991 hat mir die CD gefallen, was ich heute nicht gerade behaupten kann. Nichtsdestotrotz ist es eine gute Produktion mit einem guten Sänger, muss man aber nicht gerade haben.

There’s probably the one or other, already who has heard something about the band Novella. The American band comes from New Jersey and got founded of singer/guitar player/keyboarder Jonathan Pagano together with the mens Jon Spinola (bass) and Adam Gibson (Drums). You can consider their music as mainstream rock with many influences. Some are from the reach of British rock and others are typical American, you even could say a little bit indie rock too. It would be some difficult to name a determine band for me here, the only one, which comes in my mind would be Black Sabbath and sooner the very old songs. I don’t become real warm with the album. There are really a bunch of good starts to hear in the music, however the complete sinks either down before or first in the middle of the songs. Here would be the songs „Fire Eyes“, „I Need You“, „Who Are We To Say“, „Sweet Rising Sun“ and „Give Me Love“, at what you could hear the first both songs in different radio stations and discotheques once, when you didn’t know too, that it was Novella. The song „Lay It On Me“ doesn’t pleases me generally and could have been left gone. I would have better imagined the album, but the CD has pleased me in 1991, what I can’t straight claim today. Nevertheless, it is a good production with a good singer, but you musn’t have it straight. (Translation by Dominic)
