Nightmare - The Dominion Gate

Hier haben wir eine französische Powermetal Band mit Namen Nightmare. Gegründet wurde die Band bereits 1979. Sie machten sich erstmals einen Namen, als Vorgruppe von Def Leppard 1983 in ihrer Heimatstadt Grenoble/Frankreich. Sie brachten bis jetzt drei Studioalben heraus 1984 „Waiting For The Twilight“, 1985 „Power Of The Universe“ und 2001 „Cosmovision“. Durch den Zusammenbruch, des Labels, diversen verschiedenen Labels und finanziellen Schwierigkeiten, kam obendrauf noch die schwere Krankheit des Sängers Jean-Marie Box, der somit die Band 1987 verlassen musste und 1999 auf tragische Weise starb. Vom nunmehr Original Line Up waren nur noch Yves Campion (Bass) und Nicolas De Dominicis (Gitarist) übrig. Jedoch durch musikalische Unterschiede, wechselten diverse Line Up´s und kamen schlussendlich für ihr neuestes Werk „The Dominion Gate“ zum Line Up mit Sänger Jo Amore, den Gitarristen Alex Hilbert und Franck Milleliri, Bassist Yves Campion und Schlagzeuger David Amore. Nicht nur musikalisch, sondern auch vom Cover Art, haben sie sich sehr zum Besseren entwickelt. Ob das nun am schwedischen Label Regain Rekords liegt oder nicht, will ich hier nicht behaupten. Auf dieser Scheibe bekommt man Powermetal pur und das wirklich vom Feinsten und nicht schlecht zusammengestellt. Klar muss man sich erst an die etwas außergewöhnliche Spielweise, bei dem Einen oder Anderen Song reinhören, aber das klappt hervorragend, nach einiger Zeit. Was bei Nightmare auch nicht gerade für den typischen Powermetal steht, sind die Nebeneffekte oder auch mystische Musik. Es macht die Songs etwas unnatürlich und vielleicht neu, was dann auch bei den meisten Leuten als erster Eindruck dazu führt, dass man die Scheibe gleich wieder weg legen möchte. Was aber die falsche Entscheidung wäre. Die Songs sind sehr abwechslungsreich. Möchte man mehr Stratovarius oder Symphony X ähnliche Songs hören, dann liegt man bei „Temple Of Tears“, „A Taste Of Armageddon“ (hier besonders, die Frauenstimme mittendrin) oder auch „Secret Rules“ (hier besonders, der gesprochene Text am Anfang und die japanisch klingende Stimme). Mehr im melodischen Bereich und dazu meine Favoriten, liegen „Messenger Of Faith“ und „Circle Of The Dark“. Sie erinnern mich an Songs von Rob Rock, Nocturnal Rites, perfekt! „The Dressmaker“ erinnert mich manchmal an Marilyn Mansons Art. „Paranormal Magnitude Part II“ ist eher was für die Kirche mit viel Chor im Hintergrund und beinahe auch Instrumental gehalten. Alle anderen Songs sind typische Powermetal Songs, sehr schnell, abwechslungsreich und manchmal mit fremdartigen Background Stimmen und Chors. Sollte jeder einmal reinhören!

Here we have a French Powermetal band with name Nightmare. The Band already were formed in 1979. They made themselves for the first time a name, as support act of Def Leppard 1983 in their hometown Grenoble/France. They released till now three studio albums, 1984 "Waiting For The Twilight" , 1985 "Power Of The Universe“ and 2001 "Cosmovision". By the collapse of the label, various different labels and financial difficulties, came on top the serious illness of the singer Jean Jean-Marie box, who therefore leave the band 1987 and died tragically 1999. From the original Line Up were only Yves Campion (bass) and Nicolas De Dominics (guitar) left. Because of musical differences, chance diverse Line Ups and came finally to their newest Work „The Dominion Gate“ with the Line Up singer Jo Amore, the two guitarists Alex Hilbert and Franck Milleliri, bassplayer Yves Campion and drummer David Amore. In music, but also of the Cover, they did develop kind very much to the better one. Whether now because of the Swedish label Regain Records is or not, I want not to state here. On this CD you gets pure Powermetal and really by the finest one and not badly arranged. Sure that you first must get used to the strange unusual playin of one or the other Songs, but folds outstanding, to some time. What doesn´t stand for Nightmare also straight for the typical Powermetal, are the side effects or the mystic music sound. It makes the Songs a little unnatural and perhaps new, which then also at most people as the first impression leads to the fact that one would like to put the CD equivalent again away. Which however is the wrong decision. The Songs are very varied. Would you like to listen more Stratovarius or Symphony X style, than listen „Temple Of Tears“, „A Taste Of Armageddon“ (special here the woman voice) or even „Secret Rules“ (here particularly, the spoken text at the beginning and the Japanese sounding voice). More in the melodic area and in addition my favourites are „Messenger Of Faith“ and „Circle Of The Dark“. They remimds me on songs from Rob Rock, Nocturnal Rites, great! „The Dressmaker“ remember me sometimes on Marilyn Mansons Style. „Paranormal Magnitude Part II“ is rather something for the church with much choir in the background and almost also instrument. All other Songs is very fast, varied and sometimes typical Powermetal Songs, with strange Background voices and choir. Just listen it!
