Nevermore - This Godless Edeavor

Nevermore sind so eine Sache. Diese neue Scheibe wurde ja von fast allen Hartwurst Fachmagazinen in die Pol-Position gebeamt, das muss ja wohl oder übel ein Götter Album sein. Ich muss sagen dass ich Nevermore etwas skeptisch gegenüberstehe. Die "Sanctuary" Alben liebe ich fast wie meine eigene Mutter, aber bei den "Nevermore" Werken wurde ich (bis auf das

Debut) nie richtig warm. Zwar muss man der Band zu gute halten dass sie durch ihren eigenwilligen Mix aus Thrash und Powermetal Fans von beiden Richtungen vereinen könne, und dass die Instrumentalisten ihre Instrumente (was denn sonst) beherrschen wie die Kuh das Milchgeben. Trotzdem sind mir die Alben oft zu überladen mit Thrash Geschrubber und auf die Dauer ist das etwas nervig. Auch der Gesang von Warrel Dane ist mir oft etwas zu Jammerlappen artig und seine berühmten Schreie wie auf den Sanctuary Alben sind kaum mehr zu hören.



Das neue Album besticht erstmal durch ein edles Cover Artwork, das Digipack ist schön aufgemacht, und das ist gut so, denn daran hat ein richtiger Metal-Fan der noch nicht dem Download-Wahn verfallen ist, seine Freude. Der erste Song mit dem simplen Titel "Born" ballert dann auch gerade sehr thrashig aus den Boxen, der Gesang ist gepresst und aggressiv, dafür zeigt sich beim Refrain sehr variabel und bietet dem Hörer eine göttliche Gesangsmelodie. Leider können die nächsten Tracks mit dem recht hohen Niveau des Openers nicht ganz mithalten. Songs Nummer 2 - 4 schrubben sich am Hörer eher vorbei und lassen keinen nachhaltigen Eindruck. Erst bei "Sentient 6" gibt’s wieder etwas Abwechslung, dank dem balladesken Anfang. Die restlichen Songs sind auch nicht schlecht, aber mir persönlich fehlt einfach der Touch. Natürlich ist die Scheibe perfekt produziert, gut gespielt, aber etwas neues und ergreifendes können Nevermore auf dieser neuen Scheibe nicht bieten. Wer aber bereits bisher seine Freude an dieser ungewöhnlichen US Truppe hatte, kann wohl bedenkenlos zugreifen, denn Soundprobleme wie auf "Enemies of Reality" gibt’s hier keine mehr. Wer aber noch kein Nevermore Album hat, dem empfehle ich eher das Debut, ist für Neulinge meiner Meinung nach etwas leichter zu verdauen und hat auch noch die schöneren Songs drauf.

Nevermore are such a thing. This new piece got beamed on the pole-position of almost every hard music magazine, this has to be a gods album. I have to say, that I stand some sceptic against Nevermore. I love the „Sancutary“ albums almost like my own mother, but I never got right warm at the „Nevermore“ pieces (till on the debut). I have to charge the band, that they can unite fans of both towards through their self-willed mixture from thrash and power metal and that the instrumentalists rule their instruments (what else) like the cow the milk giving. For all that, the albums are often overloaded with thrash scrubbing and that’s nerves a little bit on the while. The singing of Warrel dane is for moe often to lamentation like and his famous sreams like on the Sancutary albums are hardly to hear anymore. The new album convinces first through the noble cover artwork, the digipack is nice designed and that’s good, then a right metal-fan has his pleasure on it, who isn’t yet falling to the download-delusion. The first song with the simple title „Born“ shots straight very thrasy out of the speakers too, the singing is pressed and aggressive, therefore shows itself very vary at the refrain and offers a goddess singing melody to the listener. Unfortunately, the next tracks can’t hold with the right high level of the opener. Songs number 2-4 scrubs themself sooner away at the listener and leave behind no enduring impression. First, there’s some variation again at „Sentient 6“, thanks the balladesc beginning. The remaining songs aren’t bad too, but personal for me the touch is simple missing. Natural, the disc is perfect produced, well recorded, but Nevermore can’t offer something new and grasping. Already, who had his pleasure so far on this unusual US band, can catch without considerless, there are no more sound problems like on „Enemies of Reality“. Who has no Nevermore album, who I recommend sooner the debut my opinion is, it’s easier to digest for newcomers and yet has the more beautiful songs on it too. (Translation by Dominic)
