Mötley Crüe - Dr. Feelgood

Dr. Feelgood ist ein Album, das so genial ist, das es keinen Ausdruck gibt um es zu beschreiben. Es wird wohl nicht nur mein Lieblingsalbum von den Kings of Glam sein, sondern, was nicht zuletzt auch die Verkaufszahlen dieser Wahnsinnsscheibe zeigen. Ich wage jetzt sogar mal zu behaupten, das diese Scheibe, der Höhepunkt des 80er Rock ist.

Nachdem die Band, insbesondere Nikki, durch den täglichen Drogenkonsum mittlerweile ernsthafte Schwierigkeiten bekommen hatte, begab sie sich (wurde eingewiesen) auf Entziehungskur, die auch erfolgreich war. So konnten Mötley Crüe zum ersten Mal ein Album aufnehmen, beim dem sie alle clean waren. Weiterhin hatte man mit Bob Rock einen erstklassigen Produzenten an Bord, der das erstklassige Songmaterial noch mal besonders veredelte.

Auf diese Weise kamen elf Songs heraus, die ihresgleichen suchen, weil sie einfach alles in sich vereinen. Sie laufen flüssig durch, bleiben trotzdem im Gedächtnis hängen. Sie sind künstlerisch und trotzdem kommerziell und, was das wichtigste ist, sie treten verdammt noch mal in den Arsch und bringen einen auch beim 1000. Anhören immer noch zum Ausrasten.

Los geht das ganze mit den beiden hardrocklastigen Midtemponummern „Dr. Feelgood“ und „Slice of your pie“, von denen ersteres eine der Singleauskopplungen war und somit auch ein Video spendiert bekommen hat. Die nächsten beiden Songs „Rattlesnake shake“ und „Kickstart my heart“ rocken dann richtig los und bringen jede Party richtig zum kochen. Besonders Kickstart wird immer mein Lieblingssong von den Mötleys bleiben.

Pflicht war in den 80ern ja auch immer eine Ballade, und die ist mit Without you auch sehr gut gelungen. Weiter geht’s noch mal mit einem Highlight unter den Highlights (sorry für diesen Satzbau, aber ich weiss echt nicht, wie ich das anders ausdrücken könnte) „Same old situation (S.O.S.)“ bringt alles was man am Glam so liebt noch mal auf den Punkt. Hier kam dann auch Tommy Lee mit seinem fliegenden Schlagzeug zum Einsatz; immer wieder cool anzusehen im Video. Auf jeden Fall auch erwähnen muss man hier „She goes down“, wo der Songtitel für sich spricht. Und auch die fünfte oder sechste Singleauskopplung „Don’t go away mad (just go away)“ gehört seitdem zum Standardprogramm eines jeden Mötley Konzertes. 1990 gab es hierfür bei den MTV Video Music Awards eine Auszeichnung.

Tja, zum Schluss bleibt mir jetzt eigentlich kaum noch was zu sagen. Eine Kaufempfehlung kann ich mir wohl getrost sparen, da die Scheibe wohl sowieso fast jeder im Regal stehen hat. Bleibt nur noch mal zu betonen, dass es wirklich ein Ausnahmealbum ist, was man auch daran sehen kann, dass Songs wie „Rattlesnake shake“ und „She goes down“, die für andere Bands die Grundlage eines Album wären, hier schon quasi als nette Draufgabe durchgehen.

Dr. Feelgood is an album, which is so outstanding, that no human language has an appropriate word to describe it. I guess it is not only my favourite record of the kings of glam, which can also be seen by its number of sales. I even dare to say that this album is the climax 80s rock music. After the band, especially Nikki Sixx, had brought themselves into serious trouble by the daily consume of drugs, they went (were carried) to rehab, which was successful. That way Mötley Crüe could for the first time record an album while they were clean. Furthermore with Bob Rock they had one of the best producers, who could give the songs a certain touch.

The result of this work were eleven songs, that do not have to fear any comparison, because they just combine everything in themselves. They still run easy listening but in spite of that are very memorable. They have aspects of art but still some kind of commercial. And, most important, they kick ass and even if you listen to them for the 1000th time they still make you go crazy.

It starts with the two medium speed songs “Dr. Feelgood” and “Slice of your pie”. The first mentioned was published as a single and with that received a video. The next two songs “Rattlesnake shake” und “Kickstart my heart” really rock and push every party to the limit. Especially Kickstart will always be my favourite song of the Motleys.

During the eighties it was some kind of duty to have at least one ballad on a record. And “Without you” is an honourable representative for that. It continues with a highlight among the highlight (sorry for that but I don’t know how to write it different) “Same old situation (S.O.S.)” gives all one loves about glam. This was the time when Tommy Lee lifted off in his flying drum kit, which is always fun to watch in the video. In any case “She goes down” has to be mentioned; its songtitle says everything about it. As well the fifth or sixth single „Don’t go away mad (just go away)”. Since that time it can be found in any set of a Motley Crue concert. In 1990 it received a trophy at the MTV Vide music awards.

Finally there is not much left to say for me. I don’t think I have to recommend Dr. Feelgood for buying, because almost everybody has this record in his collection. That’s why once more it has to be said that this album is exceptional great, which can also be seen, that songs like “Rattlesnake shake” and “She goes down” would be the base for a whole album for many other bands, in this case they have bonus character.
