Kix - Midnite Dynamite

Der zweite Anlauf von Kix kann zwar noch nicht so überzeugen, wie nachfolgende Werke hat aber auf jeden Fall schon seine Momente und geht in die richtige Richtung. Mit seiner AOR Lastigkeit, obwohl die Texte eher Glam Themen haben, ist Midnite Dynamite ein typisches Mittachtziger Album und die ständigen Vergleiche mit AC/DC sind meiner Meinung nach eher auf die kreischende Stimme von Sänger Steve Whiteman zu begrenzen. Die zehn Songs sind alle ganz gut eingespielt, es gibt keine Ausfälle, doch man hätte ruhig noch ein bisschen an Ihnen feilen können. Denn die Reife eines „Hot Wire“ wird hier noch nicht erreicht.

Als Anspieltipps kann man auf jeden Fall die ersten beide Lieder, den Titeltrack und „Red Hot (Black&Blue)“ empfehlen, die als mittelschnelle bzw. langsame Hardrocksongs schon ganz nett anzuhören sind. Highlight des Albums ist wohl zweifellos die Nummer drei „Bang Bang (Balls of fire)“ glammässig schon richtig gut abrockt und ordentlich Laune macht. Im Mittelteil fällt Midnite Dynamite dann etwas ab, da Songs wie „Cry Baby“ oder „Cold Shower“ doch schon ziemlich durchschnittlich sind. Erwähnenswert ist auf jeden Fall noch der letzte Song „Sex“, der sowohl textlich als auch musikalisch noch mal einigen Spass bringt.

Zum Schluss bleibt mir nur zu sagen, dass das Potential des Albums leider nicht ganz ausgeschöpft wurde, da sich das ganze irgendwie wie mit angezogener Handbremse gespielt anhört. Doch wie man weiß hat die Band dann bald das Gaspedal für sich entdeckt!

The second album of Kix is not as convincing as the later outputs but still has ist moments and goes into the right direction. With the strongly AOR influenced music, although the texts are more of glam topics, Midnite dynamite is a typical mid eighties record and the permanent comparisons to ACDC are in my opinion only valid for the sreaming voice of Steve Whiteman. The ten songs are being played quite good, but they still could have been improved a little bit. Because the class of “Hot Wire” cannot be achieved, yet.

A tip to listen two are the first two songs, the titletrack and “Red hot (Black&Blue)”, which are quite nice Hardrocksongs. The album’s highlight is, without any doubt, track number three “Bang Bang (Balls of fire)” which is really great rocking Glam song. The middle part of “Midnite dynamite” is not as good as the beginning because songs like “Cry baby” or “Cold shower” are quite average. Worth to be mentioned is in any case the last song “Sex”, which is with its texts and music really entertaining.

At last I can only say that the record has had more potential, it seems to be played with pulled brakes somehow. But as everybody knows the band had soon discovered the gas pedal for themselves!
