You like AOR and don’t know “Giant”? Shame on you, the Americans issued two milestones of this genre in 1989 and 1992. Odette already has introduced you “Time to Burn”, so the debut album “Last of the Runaways” yet stays for me. Bandleader “Dann Huff” valids as guitar god, when his name doesn’t fall in context with “Satriani” or “Vai” too, this artist has some skills and has proven his works at many mega stars (Mariah Carey, Joe Cocker and many more). “Im a Believer” starts with a fine guitar solo of “Dann Huff”, a friend of mine still talks of it today, when he hears the name “Giant”. On “Last of the Runaways” lines hit for hit, everyone of the songs could appear in a 80’s teenie movie and care for good atmosphere. I exactly like so well the noble “Innocent Days” how the damn catchy “I Can’t get Close Enough”, just awesome! What would be an AOR band without a ballad? Not really much, plus it just belongs to it and “Giant” naturaly deliver with “I’ll See you in my Dream” a killer ballad for us, which belongs on every love song sampler. I’m surely not the biggest AOR fan, but this album have you just to love, the melodies are just great and still belongs to the best what this genre has to offer for you today. Sad but true, that “Giant” have itself broken up after “Time to Burn”, but honestly, this only was the possible solution, “Kurt Cobain” came, the coolest music of the world went, but today we are still here at least. There was a comeback with the title “III” in 2001, unfortunately an album, that somehow has gone down. “Last of the Runaways” is a classic and belongs into every 80’s fan collection!
