Diamonds are not Forever, but Evil
Das neue Album „Evil is Forever“ von den „Astral Doors“ hat in der Metal Welt eingeschlagen wie eine Bombe. Die Magazine haben die Scheibe zu Recht in den höchsten Tönen gelobt. Grund genug für mich die Band genauer unter die Lupe zu nehmen, deswegen habe ich mich mit Wundersänger „Nils Patrik Johansson“ über den neuen Silberling unterhalten.

Nils, euer neues Album ist wirklich phantastisch geworden, so richtig geiler Metal, wie bist du selber mit den Kritiken von „Evil is Forever“ zufrieden?
Danke vielmals, wir sind uns bewusst das „Evil is Forever“ ein Meisterwerk geworden ist. Wir sind auch höllisch Stolz darauf und die Kritiken waren wirklich super. Also Beispiel: 88 von 100 Punkte im Burrn! Magazine, 8.5 im Rock Hard, 9 im Rock it und 6 von 7 im Hammer Mag!
Yep und die Note 8.5 gab es von Sleaze-Metal.com und zwar von meiner einer. Letztes Jahr habt ihr ja am Wacken und am Sweden Rock Festival gespielt. Was war das für ein Gefühl bei diesen Festivals mitzuspielen?
Fantastisch, wir haben zwar auf einer kleinen Bühne gespielt aber die Leute sind voll angegangen, die haben geil mitgesungen und ihre Mähne geschüttelt. Beim Sweden Rock haben wir vor 10 000 verrückten Headbangern gespielt, das machte wirklich grossen Spass.
Was ich mich schon immer fragte, bedeutet eigentlich der Name „Astral Doors“?
Das ist eine Spirituelle Sache, wenn du in Trance bist kannst du deinen Körper durch die Astrale Türe verlassen. Wir machen alle Yoga und eines Tages werden wir durch die Astrale Türe verschwinden und uns irgendwo anders treffen.
Danke für die Erklärung Nils, wie sieht es mit dem Cover Artwork aus, hat das auch eine spezielle Bedeutung?
Meinst du von der neuen Scheibe? Ok, also unser Manager hat dieses coole Bild gefunden und wir liebten es alle sofort. Es hat aber keine tiefere Bedeutung, es ist einfach ein schönes Foto. Das Cover des ersten Astral Doors Album mit den Priestern hat ein Freund von mir auf meine Anweisungen hin gemacht. Dieses Cover hat hingegen eine tiefere Bedeutung und basiert auf dem Titeltrack "Of the son and the father"!
„Evil is Forever“ erinnert mich sehr an die guten alten „Dio“ Zeiten zurück. Nils du hast eine sensationelle Stimme, wann hast du mit dem Singen eigentlich begonnen?
Thank you Sir! Ich singe eigentlich schon mein ganzes Leben, aber es war 1990 als ich das erste Mal in einer Band gesungen habe. Ich arbeite hart hart hart an meiner Stimme, um da zu sein wo ich jetzt bin.
Wie sieht es bei euch mit einer Tour aus?
Also sind jetzt gerade von einer Support Tour zusammen mit „Grave Digger“ zurück, wir spielen in Deutschland, Dänemark und der Schweiz. Es war echt geil in Deutschland und allgemein in Europa. Nun geht es ab nach Japan!

Kannst du mir etwas auf die Lyrics von „Evil is Forever“ eingehen?
Der Titel ist ein Wortspiel, Diamonds are Forever ist der Titel eines Bond Movies und ich habe das in „Evil is Forever“ abgeändert. Nachdem ich den Titel hatte, habe ich die Lyrics dazu geschrieben.. Es ist über TV Spots die mit uns ein ordentliches Brainwashing veranstalten. Die meisten Texte basieren auf wahren Begebenheiten. „The Bride of Christ“ handelt von einem schwedischen Priester der sein Hausmädchen dazu gebracht hat seine Frau umzubringen und andere Scheiße. Seine linke Hand war eine Frau die sich selber „The Bride of Christ“ nannte. Die Lyrics sind die stärksten die ich je geschrieben habe: Check them out!!

First of all, I want to thank you for the interview and congratulations for your brand new album "Evil is Forever" . I like it very much, great melodies, amazing choirs, bombastic guitars and played perfectly. Have you read any reviews about the CD so far? And are you satisfied with the reactions so far?
Thank you so much! We feel that we've done a masterpiece and we are proud as hell over this album. The reactions from the media has been super. For example:
88 out of 100 in BURRN! Magazine; 8,5 out of 10 in Rock Hard; 9,0 out of 10 in ROCK
IT; 6 out of 7 in Metal Hammer etc.
Last summer the Band have done played Shows at the Sweden Rock Festival and Wacken, how was it to be a part of this festivals?
Fantastic! At Wacken we played on a small stage, but the people there was incredible: Sang along, banged their heads and had fun. At Sweden Rock we played for 10 000 crazy headbangers. Great fun.
What is the meaning of the name "Astral Doors"?
As you probably know it's about this spiritual thing. If you go into trance you can leave the body through the Astral Doors. We're getting more and more into yoga and one day we all might meet up far beyond the Astral Doors!

On the new one? Ok: Our manager found this cool picture and we fucking loved it. It was like metal to the bone. It's no deep shit behind it, we just thought it was a nice picture, so we took it.
The first album, with the priests on the cover, was made by a friend of mine, after my instructions. It's kind of deep, based upon our title track "Of the son and the father".
"Evil is Forever" reminds me back to the good old days of "Dio's" Holy Diver", great bombastic Metal with a amazing voice. your voice is bally good.. when did you start singing?
Thank you Sir! I've been singing for all my life, but I guess it was around 1990 I started to sing in bands. I've worked hard, hard, hard to be where I am today.
How about touring, you have anything in your plans?
Just got home from a two week tour with Grave Digger.(Germany, Switzerland,
Italy and Denmark) It was a great thrill for us to rock a bit of Germany and Europe. We loved it!
Japan is next!

Give us a look at the lyrics from "Evil is Forever" , from your point of view, please..why the Evil is forever?
The title is a wordplay: Diamonds are forever is the title of a Bond-movie. I changed it into "Evil is forever". After I had the title I wrote the lyrics to the song. It's about TV-commercials. Brainwashing our minds. Most of my lyrics are based on real things. "Bride of Christ" for example is about a priest from Sweden who made his nanny to kill his wife and shit. His left hand was a woman calling herself "Bride of Christ". The lyrics on the new album are the strongest I've ever done. Check them out!
