Too Brutal for the World?

Brian done this Interview with the new Band "Brutaliator"

When did the band start ?

The official start is 1993. We had played together
before though, but then the band got started for real.

Were you all friends or was their auditions?

We met in high school and started playing together for
fun, so there were no auditions.

Did any band members play in other bands before Brutaliator and what bands were they . Also did they release any material ?

There were some different bands before, but nothing
serious. Demo's were released, but nothing worth to mention

Stefan and Jens play some amazing guitar. who are there influences ?

Jens: Hard to say, but some great guitarists are:
Marty Friedman and Dave Mustaine (Rust in peace and Countdown to extinction
are just filled with cool solos). Kerry King and Jeff Hanne man, unique
styles, you can immediately hear it's them. Mille Petrozza (Coma of
souls!). Iron Maiden has a bunch of sweet solos. Motörhead must be
mentioned, I am a huge fan, all their stuff is great. In later years
it's been a lot of jazz, Wes Montgomery, Joe Pass, John McLaughlin, Al
DiMeola, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Pat Martino and so on. I used to listen
to blues a lot too, Muddy Waters, Johnny Winter, Albert King.

Stefan: I listen mostly to Metal music and guitarists in the Metal
scene are usually very good at what they do. Jens already mentioned some that I
agree have inspired me in my playing. Metal in general.

This is your first release. How long did it take to record ?

It was recorded in 2000, so I don't really remember. It took about a week
in total I guess.

The Cd was going to be release by another company and you decided to release it yourself instead. Why?

It was too much hassle really. They were a really tiny company, so we
thought it would be cool, that we could trust each other. They tried
big-company tactics, with a complicated record contract, basically
with rights for them and responsibilities for Brutaliator. We felt
that if it's this much trouble now, it can only be worse later. We
have never regretted this move. For a bigger company,
you can accept things like that, since you (in theory at least) get
good promotion and distribution, but for a smaller company, the
relation must be really good

Do fans compare you to Metallica ?

More in the past. They were really great once upon a time, and we were
influenced by them in the past. We move more towards thrash, while
they moved away from it.

Can fans get the old Demos you did ?

There's a lot of material that really doesn't hold up on the earlier
demos. If demand was great, I guess we could put together some kind of
"best of demos". All the original demos are sold out. They were all
tapes too...

Is there any chance of Brutaliator playing shows in the USA ?

If someone would pay the expenses, we would come for sure.

Can you give some insight of the equipment the band uses ?

What do you see in the future for Brutaliator ?

Well, we have a new promo which we will send to record companies. We
all believe that the new songs are the best so far, that we found our
style on this one. So we hope for response on that. If it wouldn't
happen, we'll record and release something ourselves again. We are
constantly looking for gigs, the scene in Sweden isn't as big as you
might think. So we see more releases and more gigs in the future. Even
though we've been going for quite a while, we are still evolving as a
band and as musicians, which is what really matters.
