Die Schweden von "Bloodbound" haben Ende Februar ein Killer Debut Album an den Start gelegt und natürlich lassen wir uns nicht zweimal bitten wenn hier eine Interview Anfrage kommt. Nein, wir haben unseren Stil nicht geändert, wir machen immer noch keine Interviews mit Black Metal Bands, "Bloodbound" haben ihr Outfit ganz auf die Geschichte von "Good VS. Evil" abgestimmt und sehen darum aus wie Böse Pandabären. Ich habe mich mit "Tomas" über die Entstehung von "Nosferatu" unterhalten, der nette Schwede war nicht so Wortkarg wie einige seiner Musiker Kollegen und man kann gut und gerne von einem gelungen Interview sprechen.

Tomas, Glückwunsch zu eurem neuen Album “Nosferatu”; ich muss gestehen, dass mich diese Aufnahmen sehr beeindruckt haben. Wie findest du es selber?
Vielen Dank. Ich bin sehr zufrieden damit. Ich wusste, dass es sehr gut kommen würde und das Resultat ist, denke ich, besser als wir es erwartet haben. Dieses Album hat definitiv das gewisse Etwas. Es sticht heraus.
Was ist für dich wichtiger, die Reaktinen der Presse oder die der Fans?
Nun, natürlich ist es sehr schön, wenn man gute Kritik erhält, aber wir spielen für die Fans, also kann ich damit sagen, dass diese wichtiger sind. Aber ich bin sehr glücklich darüber, dass die Reaktionen der Presse so gut sind. Ehrlich gesagt war ich ein bisschen verunsichert, wie die Kritik ausfallen würde, denn dieses Album wurde für uns und die Fans geschrieben. Kritiker wollen üblicherweise etwas, das originaler ist und wir haben versucht, so wenig wie möglich über die Originalität zu denken. Ich denke, die Qualität der Songs überdeckt das Fehlen der Originalität, obwohl ich nicht finde, dass wir wie jede andere Band klingen. Ich bin sehr froh darüber, dass sich die Kritiker das Album zu Herzen genommen haben, womit es schon fast zu einem Kultalbum mutiert ist Als das Album fertig war, wusste ich, dass die Fans aus diesem Genre es lieben würden, denn ich bin ein Fan dieses Stils und ich weiss schliesslich, was ich liebe ;-) brag, brag, brag… hahaha
“Nosferatu” hat eine wirklich tolle Story, zwischen Gut und Böse; kannst du uns ein bisschen was drüber erzählen?
Als Erstes möchte ich erklären, dass Nosferatu ein Konzeptalbum zwischen Gut und Böse ist- wir folgen einem Mann bei seinem Bestreben, den teuflischen Dämon Nosferatu (das Gesicht des Teufels) zu bekämpfen stellen die Balance zwischen Gut und Böse, Licht und Dunkelheit, Himmel und Hölle wieder her… jeder Song ist wie eine kurze Geschichte, in der die Hauptfigur sich durchkämpfen muss, um das nächste Level zu erreichen. Welche sind deine Lieblingslieder auf dem Album und wieso?
Nosferatu! Ich denke, dieser Song beinhaltet alle Elemente, die einen guten Heavy Metal Song ausmachen. Das Intro bestimmt die „Laune“ eines Liedes und bereitet dich darauf vor, was nun kommen mag. Die doppelte Gitarrenmelodie wird dir die Fahrt deines Lebens verpassen;) Weltklasse Stimmen mit jeder Menge Attitüde und einem Refrain, der so abgeht und sich in deinem Kopf festnietet und dich nie wieder loslässt.
Eure Band hat jede Menge Fotoshootings für die Presse gemacht, mit haufenweise Schminke; ich denke, jeder würde gerne wissen, wieso “Bloodhound” wie eine Blackmetal Band aussieht.
Unser Image ist ein Teil des ganzen Konzeptes hinter dem Album “Nosferatu”. Die Geschichte ist sehr düster und wir mussten etwas Spezielles tun, um die Story zum leben zu erwecken.
Es gab SO VIEL Gerede über unser Image, Bloodhound ist und wird auch niemals den Regeln folgen, das ist sicher. Erwarte das Unerwartete. Wir haben jede Menge Überraschungen für die Zukunft. Und jeder, der sich selbst in diesem Geschäft für zu ernst nimmt, gehört nicht dahin ;-)
Lasst und zurückgehen zu den Aufnahmen von Nosferatu. Erzähl mir bitte etwas darüber und auch über den Vorgang des Schaffens.
Das Album wurde von mir und Fredrik Bergh produziert, abgemischt von Per Ryberg in den Soundcreation Studios in Bollnäs/Schweden. Wir sind sehr zufrieden mit dem Resultat, die Produktion entpuppte sich als wirklich cool. Die Komplexität der Arrangements und die Tatsache, dass nicht ein einziger Track weniger als 100 Channels hat, machte es zu seinem sehr schwierigen Job. Wir mussten für jedes einzelne Instrument Platz machen und alles einstimmen, damit sie nicht kollidierten oder ganz verschwanden. Das Resultat ist ein sehr ausgeklügelter Sound. Das Album wird mit ein paar teuren Kopfhörern so richtig zum Leben erweckt.
Die Aufnahmen fanden in einer alten, hölzernen Burg statt, direkt neben einem steilen Abhang, lokalisiert in Mitten eines dunklen Waldes, neben einem kristallernen, schwarzen See. Dieser unkonventionelle Aufnahmeort wurde deswegen ausgewählt, um eine perfekte Atmosphäre zu inszenieren. Alle Lieder wurden mitten in der Nacht aufgenommen, um das dunkle Gefühl einzufangen, welches ihr nun auf dieser CD zu hören vermögt.
Wer erfand diesen Bandnamen und warum habt ihr gerade diesen ausgewählt?
Wir sind eine sehr enge Einheit und die Band kommt immer als erstes, also wollten wir einen Namen, der dies symbolisiert. Eines Tages waren Fredrik und ich in meiner Wohnung und haben nach einem Namen gesucht, als ich plötzlich sagte „es sollte etwas mit „blood“ sein..“, Fredrik sagte dann Bloodbound und wir beide fanden die Bezeichnung perfekt für uns.
Wie steht es mit Auftritten? Habt ihr schon einige Gigs veranstaltet um die CD mit Metal Heaven zu unterstützen?
Wir werden am 28.April mit Dark Tranquillity und Evergrey in Umeå/ Schweden, spielen. Danach werden wir so schnell wie möglich, wenn alles organisiert ist, auf Tour gehen. Wir freuen uns wirklich sehr, die neuen Sachen live zu spielen. Leider weiss ich noch nicht ganz genau wann, aber bald…

Religion – wenn du ein Buch dafür brauchst, um zu wissen, was Gut und was Schlecht ist, vielleicht hast du dann Schwierigkeiten.. aber wie alles andere hat es gute und schlechte Seiten.

Wie du weisst bin ich aus der Schweiz, kennst du einige Bands aus meinem Lande?
Ich war schon mal in der Schweiz und es ist ein wunderschönes Land, hoffentlich können wir bald einmal hierher spielen kommen. Ich kenne Krokus und Gotthard, zwei gute Bands die ich mag.
Pfui Gotthard aber aber...warum sagst ned Satrox, die waren geil! Gibt es Bands, bei denen du vor Bloodbound gespielt hast?
Ich habe mit einigen lokalen Bands gespielt, aber die berühmteste Band, bei der ich war, ist Street Talk mit Fredrik Bergh und dem Sänger Göran Edman (ex. Yngwie Malmsteen).
Welches wäre die Band, mit der du träumst, einmal spielen zu dürfen?

Tomas, congratulations to your new album „Nosferatu“, I have to confess that this record really impressed me much. How do you like it yourself?
Thanks a lot. I’m very pleased with the album, I knew that we had something really good going, and I think that the result is even better than I expected. The album definitely has got that “little extra” call it magic or whatever, that makes it stand out.
What is more important for you, the Pressreactions or the Fans?
Well, of course it’s very nice to get good reviews but we play for the fans, so I must say that they are more important. But I’m very glad that the press reactions have been so great. I actually was a bit scared of how the reviews would turn out because the album is written for us and the fans. Critics usually want something more original and we have gone for writing as good songs as possible without thinking of originality. I think that the quality of the songs overshadows the lack of originality even though I don’t think we sound like any other band. I’m very glad that the critics has taken the album to heart and almost made it into a cult album alreadyJ When the album was ready I just knew that the fans of the genre would love it, because I’m a fan of the genre and I know what I like;-) brag, brag, brag…hahaha
“Nosferatu” have a real great story, between good and evil, can you tell us a little bit about it?
First of all I would like to explain that Nosferatu is a concept album about the balance between good and evil. We follow one man on his quest to fight the evil demon Nosferatu (the face of the devil) and restore the balance between good and evil, light and dark, heaven and hell… Every song is like a short story that the main character has to go through to advance to the next level. Your favourite Songs on the CD are? (And Why)
Nosferatu: I think that song has got all the elements that a great heavy metal song needs. The intro sets the mood of the song and kind of prepares you for what to come. The twin guitar melody that gives you the ride of your life;) World class vocals with lots of attitude and a chorus that will stick in you’re head the first time you hear it.
The band have done some press photo shootings for the record, with a lot of make up. I think everybody wants to know, why “Bloodbound” looks like a black metal act.
Our image is a part of the whole concept behind the album “Nosferatu”. The story is very dark and we needed to do something extra special to help the story “come alive”.
There has been SO MUCH talk about our image and bloodbound is and never will be a band that follows the rules, that’s for sure. Expect the unexpected. We have a lot of juicy surprises coming up in the future. And anybody who takes themselves too seriously in this business shouldn’t be here;-)
Let us go back to the recordings of “Nosferatu”, tell us a bit about the recordings and the creation process of the Record.
The album was produced by me and Fredrik Bergh, and mixed by Per Ryberg at Studio Soundcreation (Bollnäs, Sweden). We are very pleased with the result, the production turned out very cool. The complexity of the arrangements and the fact that not a single track on the album has got less than 100 channels made it a very challenging and difficult job. We had to “make place” for each and every instrument by adjusting the frequency (bass, middle, treble) so they wouldn’t collide or vanish in the mix. The result is a very crisp and detailed sound, very hifi. The album really comes alive in a pair of expensive headphones.
The recordings took place in an old and hunted wooden castle, set on the edge of a steep cliff, located in the middle of a deep forest by a crystal clear and pitch black lake. This unconventional recording location was chosen to create the right atmosphere needed for recording the songs. All of them were recorded in the middle of the night to capture the raw and dark feeling you can hear throughout the album.
Who came up with the bandname and why did you choose the name?
We are a tight unit and the band always comes first, so wanted a name that symbolizes just that. One day Fredrik and I was sitting in my apartment trying to come up with a name and all of sudden I said “It should be blood…something…” and then Fredrik said “bloodbound” and we both felt it was the perfect name for us.
How about Gigs? Have you played some Gigs to support the CD with Metal Heaven?
We are playing with Dark Tranquillity and Evergrey on the 28th of april in Umeå, Sweden. After that we’ll go on a tour as soon as we can get everything organized. We are all very excited about playing the new material live. Can’t wait to hit the road! Don’t know exactly when it will be though, but soon…
