Glam till they Die!
Die Bastardz stammen aus Brasilien und spielen einen coolen Glamrock-Sound, das hat mich nicht kalt gelassen und habe mich mit der band in Verbindung gesetzt.
Zu meiner Überraschung bekam ich eine Antwort in Deutsch, Gitarrist Thomas hat deutsche Eltern ist aber in Brasilien geboren. Das Interview haben wir der Fairness halber, gegenüber den anderen Bandmitgliedern in Englisch geführt.
Thomas stellt euch nun seine Band vor und plaudert ein wenig über dies und das.

Review: No Ass, No Pass
Hallo ihr Bastardz, wie läuft es denn so bei euch in Brasilien?
Hi, an alle von Sleaze-Metal.com. Hier läuft es hervorragend, am 25 März werden die Bastardz mit Steve Summers (Pretty Boy floyd) und Stevie Rachelle (Tuff) bei der ersten Metal Sludge Extravaganza-Party in Brasilien spielen. Der Event findet in unserer Heimatstadt Sao Paulo statt. Im April touren wir dann im Süden von Brasilien. Dann haben wir noch Pläne nach Amerika und Süd-Amerika zu gehen für eine Tour. Dann planen wir ein Album für dieses Jahre, aber da ist noch nichts sicher.
Toll, da hast ja fast schon das ganze Interview beantwortet. Kleiner Scherz. Deine Band ist möglicherweise ein unbeschriebenes Blatt für unsere Leser. Stell euch doch mal kurz vor.
Ok, wir haben als Glam/Hardrock-Tribute Band in Sao Paulo 2001 angefangen. Wir haben Coversongs von Mötley Crüe, Poison, Vain, PBF, LA Guns, Kiss oder Big Bang Babies gespielt.
Aber bald darauf haben wir Lust bekommen unsere eigenen Songs zu schrieben und sind dann im November 2004 ins Studio und haben unsere EP aufgenommen, das war „No Ass, No Pass“. Seitdem haben wir eine Menge Konzerte in Brasilien gespielt und haben eine Menge positiver Reviews von den brasilianischen Medien bekommen. Auch von MTV Brazil und diversen Webseiten. Dann haben wir noch 2 Videos gedreht, das erste zu „Pillz“ lief schon einige Male bei MTV Brazil, das war im Februar 2005. Und im Oktober ´05 haben wir dann noch eins zu „Alleycat spoiled Brat“ gemacht. Ach, ja, das Line-Up: Gesang-Nat Reed, Gitarre- Thomas Büttcher, Gitarre-Danny, Bass- Drannaht Kate und Mr Lady am Schlagzeug.
Mich interessiert mal die Tatsache, dass ihr aus Brasilien kommt, du aber Deutsch sprichst und dein Name deutet auch auf eine deutsche Abstammung hin. Wie kommt das zustande?
Geboren bin ich in Sao Paulo, aber meine ganze Familie ist aus Deutschland. So wurde ich auf deutsche Art erzogen und habe auch die Sprache gelernt. Ich war auch schon einige Male in Deutschland. Meine Mutter ihre Familie stammt aus Frankfurt und die von meinem Vater kommt aus einer kleinen Stadt in der Nähe von Hannover und Braunschweig.
Aus welcher Ecke in Brasilien kommt ihr genau?
Wir kommen aus den verschiedensten Ecken von Sao Paulo, das ist eine unglaublich große Stadt. Wir haben über 20 Millionen Einwohner und ein grauenhaftes Verkehrssystem. Aber wir lieben alle Sao Paulo, hier findest du alles was du möchtest. Besonders des Nachst.
Wie lange habt ihr für euren Stil oder euer Outfit für Bastardz gesucht?
Wir wollten von Anfang an Glam/Hardock spielen und wie die modernen Glamrockbands aussehen. Ich denke wir haben da einen eigenen Look gefunden. Wir ändern immer wieder was und über die Jahre hat sich da auch schon einiges am Style getan. Also eine bestimmte Zeit haben wir dafür nicht gebraucht.
„No Ass, No Pass“ ist aber euere einzige Veröffentlichung bisher, oder?
Ja bisher schon,
aber wie gesagt wie wollen ein Album dieses Jahr veröffentlichen und auch eine DVD.
Wir können also noch in diesem Jahr auf mehr Bastardz-Songs hoffen?
Ich hoffe doch sehr, dass wir das Album bis Ende 2006 fertig haben werden.
Ich meine, euer Sänger klingt ein wenig wie der Typ von The Darkness.
Hölle, Nein!! Meinst du echt? Das war aber nicht unsere Absicht.
Wer ist die Perle auf dem Cover?
Hmmm, sie ist eine sehr besondere Freundin von uns!
Habt ihr einen Plattenvertrag mit diesem „Dirty Crow Rec“? Oder ist das ein eigenes Label?
Es ist mehr ein Witz. Wir haben noch keinen Plattenvertrag, so haben wir ein Label erfunden.
Wie reagieren die Leute auf euch, wenn ihr auf die Bühne kommt? Ich meine ihr als Glamband seit für Brasilien eher untypisch, da verbindet man eher Hardcore oder Thrash-Metal mit.
Das hast du auch wieder Recht, die meisten Bands aus Brasilien spielen Thrash, Heavy Metal oder Hardcore. Die Leute zeigen meist 2 verschiedenen Reaktionen auf uns. 1: Sie denken dass wir nicht aus Brasilien sein können! 2: Sie schauen uns an und denken: Was zur Hölle ist das?? Die meisten können sich aber schnell begeistern und werden bald unsere Fans. Sie respektieren unsere Fans und sie mögen uns dafür, das wir das durchziehen was wir mögen. Uns ist aber auch relativ egal was andere über uns denken.

Warst du schon in anderen Bands vor den Bastardz?
Wir waren alles schon in verschiedenen Bands. Hauptsächlich waren es aber Hardrock-Tribute oder Coverbands. Aber nichts davon war gut genug um es hier noch mal zu erwähnen. Bastardz ist für uns alle das erste Projekt, das uns für den Rest unseres Lebens beschäftigen wird. Wird sind in erster Linie alles Freunde.

We’re doing fine, thanks. March 25th Bastardz will play with Steve Summers (Pretty Boy Floyd) & Stevie Rachelle (Tuff) at the first Metal Sludge Xtravaganza Party in Brazil, in Sao Paulo, our hometown. April we’re gonna do a tour through South Brazil.
We have plans to play in other countries in Latin America & USA this year, and also to release a full lenght album, but nothing is confirmed yet.
Your band is maybe not so familiar for our Readers, please gave you and your members a short introduction.
Ok: we started as a glam/hardrock tribute band in Sao Paulo, Brazil, in 2001. We played covers from a lot of bands, like Pretty Boy Floyd, Vain, LA Guns, Big Bang Babies, Mötley Crüe, Kiss, Poison, etc, etc, etc.
Soon we realized we wanted to do our own songs, so we got into a studio and in November 2004 released our first EP, No Ass No Pass. Since then we did a lot of concerts in Brazil, and got several positive reviews in brazilian rock magazines, radios, MTV Brazil, and websites. We also did 2 videos, our first, Pills wich aired a couple of times at MTV Brazil, we released in February 2005, and in October 2005 we released our second video, Alleycat spoiled Brat.

I’m interested in the fact Bastardz are from Brazil, but your guitar-player Thomas is German? Where you came from Germany and what you’re doing in Brazil?
Thomas: Actually I was born in Sao Paulo, but my whole family is from Germany, so I was educated the german way, learned the german language, and was several times in Germany too. My mother’s side of the family is from Frankfurt, and my father’s side is from small cities near Hannover and Braunschweig.
From what area or town you came from?
We’re all from different corners in Sao Paulo, wich is a huge and caotic city, we have 20 million people living here, a messy traffic system, but we love Sao Paulo, here you can find or do everything you want, specially at night.
How long have you searched to find the Style and the looks for Bastardz?
Since the beginning we wanted to play glam/hardrock and look like the modern glamrock bands, and we think that with the time we developed our own look and style, and we still think that we always will be changing it through the years, so there’s not a specific time for that.
“No ass, No Pass” is the only release from you so far?
Yes, and we have plans to release a full lenght CD and a DVD this year.
When can we hope for some More Bastardz –Songs soon?
I hope we have a new record until the end of this year, 2006.
I think your singer is sounding a bit like the Guy from The Darkness, would you agree with that?
Hell no, really? That was definetly not our intention.

Hmm, she’s a very special friend of us.
You have a deal with “Dirty Crow Rec”? Or is that your own Label?
It’s a joke, we don’t have a label, so we invented it.
How the people react when they see Bastardz on Stage? I think you’re absolute unusual for band from brazil. Most people know the hardcore and thrash-metal bands from Brazil.
Yes, you’re correct, most rock bands in Brazil play Trash, Heavy Metal, and Hardcore.
When the people first look at us, they have 2 different reactions: 1: they think we’re not from Brazil; 2: they look at us like they were thinking “What the hell is that?”; but the most of them get excited, become fans, and respect us after they hear our songs and see us live, maybe because they recognize that we’re doing what we want and we don’t care about what the others say or think.

We’ve been in several bands, mainly hard rock tribute bands, nothing worth enough to mention. Bastardz is our first project, and it’s intended to be for the rest of our lifes, we’re friends at first place.
