Nachdem ich das tolle Debüt von Blanc Faces reviewt hatte, legte mir Jörg nahe, mich doch mal an meinem ersten Interview zu versuchen. Und das machte ich dann auch und Robbie La Blanc aus Conneticut USA nahm sich einige Minuten Zeit, um meine Fragen zu beantworten. Lest hier seine Meinung zum Album und zu der Rolle, die AOR heute spielt.

Wie ging es mit dem Projekt Blanc Faces los ?
Lenny Ventura, ein Freund von uns, hat ein Demo der Songs, die wir gerade aufnahmen, an Serafino von Frontiers Records geschickt. Serafino mochte sie und wir haben einen Deal ausgehandelt, um sie mit Frontiers aufzunehmen.
Wie war es, das Album zu schreiben und aufzunehmen?
Es war super, so viele Freiheiten zu haben. Serafino ist der Produzent hat auch noch einige tolle Ideen beigesteuert, wie zu Beispiel einige Gitarrenriffs, die Gott sei Dank auch perfekt funktioniert haben.
Was sind eure Einflüsse und welche Inspirationen verwendet ihr für Songtexte?
Unsere Haupteinflüsse fürs Texte schreiben kommen viel von Leuten wie David Paich von Toto und Jim Peterik von Survivor. Das sind wirklich gute Schreiber. Auch mögen wir die Beatles, Doobie Bros. Und Grand Funk Railroad!! Normalerweise ist das was wir gerade sagen wollen auch das was wir schreiben. Wir bemühen uns dabei immer um positive Themen und drehen gelegentlich sogar ein negatives Thema positiv.
Ich denke, das der Sound von Blanc Faces einige Ähnlichkeiten mit Escape von Journey hat, ist das die Art von Musik, die ihr für Teil eurer Einflüsse halten würdet?
Danke, dass du das sagst. Escape ist ein großartiges Album und Journey gehören auch zu unseren Favoriten. Neil Schon und die Jungs hören sich immer noch toll an und Steve Augieri ist ein guter Sänger.
Wie hat sich, eurer Meinung nach, der Markt für Melodic Rock verändert seit den Achtzigern?
Es ist traurig, sagen zu müssen, das er leider nicht derselbe ist. Ich denke aber, das er wieder dabei ist, sich zu entwickeln, da auch hier in den Staaten, die Kids langsam keinen Bock mehr auf den immer gleichen Müll haben und Melodien statt dumpfen Bass Orgien wollen.
Gibt es bei der Rockmusik Unterschiede zwischen den USA und Europa, da in Japan die Begeisterung für AOR ja ungebrochen scheint?
Wir sind dankbar, dass Rock in Europa immer noch nachgefragt wird. Hier in den Staaten gibt es auch noch eine Szene, aber nicht wie in Europa und Japan. Wir würden jetzt nicht dieses Interview machen, wenn wir nicht auch in Europa und Japan erfolgreich sein wollten. Die Radiolandschaft ist hier sehr strukturiert und wird fast in den ganzen USA von gerade zwei Firmen kontrolliert. Versuch mal einen Song in der Rotation platziert zu kriegen. Du kannst dir nicht vorstellen, was da bei Radio DJs und Plattenfirmen so abgeht.
Was würdet ihr Kids, die die Backstreet Boys hören, warum sie Blanc Faces hören sollten
Bitte lach jetzt nicht, aber die Produktion und das Songwriting von vielen Backstreet Boys Platten ist toll; wir gehen nur ein bisschen härter zur Sache und nicht so stark produziert, was den Background Gesang und so angeht. Wir haben Solos in jedem Song, gute Melodien und Stimmen, genau wie sie (hoff ich wenigstens!)
Werdet ihr auf Tour gehen, oder auf Festivals auftreten?
Wenn wir genug CDs verkaufen, werden wir das wahrscheinlich irgendwie hinkriegen, Wir würden gerne in Europa, Japan oder überall spielen!
Ich denke viele Melodic Fans werden eure Platte mögen, was habt ihr für die Zukunft geplant?
Danke schön. Wir möchten nur weiter schreiben und spielen. Live und im Studio. Wir hoffen, dass unsere Fan Basis wachsen wird, damit wir jeden mal treffen können!
Werdet ihr ein weiteres Album aufnehmen?
Ich denke, das werden wir und ich hoffe dann wieder mit Frontiers.
Wo siehst du Blanc Faces in fünf Jahren?
Ich hoffe immer noch beim Interviews mit dir machen!

Mein Bruder und ich möchten euch von ganzem Herzen danken für die netten Worte und die Unterstützung. Es bedeutet sehr viel für uns, dass man sich kümmert. Wir sollten immer jeden mit Respekt und Würde behandeln, auch wenn es manchmal nicht leicht ist. Wir sind nur für kurze Zeit auf diesem Planeten und sollten aus dieser Zeit das Beste machen. Versucht nicht zu materialistisch zu sein und helft eurem Bruder!

How did the project Blanc Faces get started?
A friend of ours, lenny Ventura, sent Serafino from Frontiers Records a demo of some of our songs we'd been recording. Serafino really liked them and we worked out a deal to record them for Frontiers.
How was it like to write and produce the record?
It was great to have a lot of freedom to do them. Serafino is the executive producer on it and came up with a lot of great ideas also. He would hear guitar parts and convey that to us and thank God it worked out great!!
What are your major influences and what are your inspirations for
Our major influences writing-wise are heavily influenced by guys like David Paich from TOTO and Jim Peterik from Survivor. Great writers!! We love the Beatles, Doobie Bros. And Grand Funk Railroad as well!! Lyrically, it's
what we want to say at the moment is usually what we write about. We try to keep it all positive as well. Even a negative subject we'll try and make positive.
I think that the sound of Blanc Faces has some similarities with Escape by Journey - is that the kind of music you would say is one of your influences?
Thanks for saying that!! That's a great record and yes Journey are favorites of ours also. Neil Schon and the guys still sound great. Steve Augieri on vocals is a great singer!!
In your opinion how has the market for melodic rock changed since the eighties?
Well, it's not the same sad to say. I think it's coming back though. Even the kids here in the states are getting tired of all the processed junk that comes out and want melodies instead of all the drone note sound.
Can you tell any differences between the USA and Europe concerning rock music, because in Japan the enthusiasm for AOR has never stopped?
Well, we are grateful the market for rock music is still in demand in Europe. Here in the states there's a following but not like Europe and Japan. We wouldn't be doing this interview if it weren't for the market in Europe and Japan. Radio here is very corporate, owned by two companies pretty much for all the US. Try getting a song placed in rotation here!!You can just imagine what happens to radio programmers on behalf of the record companies to get a song in the loop!!
What would you tell kids that listen to the Backstreet Boys why they should listen to Blanc Faces?
What would you tell kids that listen to the Backstreet Boys why they should listen to Blanc Faces? Don't laugh at this please but in terms of production and writing most of the Backstreet Boys records are great!! We're just a bit heavier that's all, a little less produced as far as background vocals, etc. We have solos in every song, and good melodies and vocals just like them! ( I hope!! )
Will you go on tour or perform a festival?
If we sell enough CD's we'll probably back it up somehow. We would love to play in Europe, Japan, and wherever!!

Thank you. We just want to keep writing and performing: live and studio. We hope our fan base grows so we can meet everyone someday!!
Will there be another record?
I really think so! Hopefully with Frontiers Records again!
