Über Brazon Abbot hat man mittlerweile in verschiedenen Magazinen bestimmt einiges lesen können. Das neueste Werk „My Resurrection“ dürft ihr im Juni nicht verpassen, mich haben die Songs überzeugt, auch wenn dieses Mal ein Orchester das Album unterstreicht. Dass das Ganze von Nikolo Kotzev in die Welt gerufen wurde, vermutlich weniger. Ich habe ihn mal näher unter die Lupe genommen und ihm einige Fragen gestellt, auf die er auch prompt geantwortet hat. About Brazon Abbot you has been able to read something certainly in different magazines in the meantime. The newest work „My Resurrection“ you mustn't miss in June, the songs have convinced me even if an orchestra underlines the album. The whole was presumably less that called by Nikolo Kotzev to the world. I have taken him nearly under the magnifying glass more and asked him some questions on which he has answered also promptly. Hallo Nikolo. Gebe uns doch eine kurze Beschreibung über dein Leben?
Ich bin in Bulgarien geboren, habe mit 5 Jahren gelernt Geige zu spielen, ging dann auf eine Musikschule für 5 Jahre, für 4 Jahre auf die Musikakademie und Universität für ein Jahr, wo ich mein Magister in Musik bekam. Ich lebe seit 1989 in Finnland und dort ist auch mein Aufnahmestudio. Ich produziere auch für andere Leute.
Bevor du Brazon Abbot gestartet hast, warst du in der schwedischen Band Baltimoore. Was denkst du über diese Zeit und willst uns darüber erzählen?
Wir brachten zwei gute Hardrock Alben heraus. Leider ging er wir aufgrund persönlicher Unterschiede verschiedene Wege.
Mittlerweile hast du schon 6 Alben herausgebracht. Was war der Grund für Brazon Abbot immer verschiedene Sänger auf die Alben zu nehmen?
Nun, es war anfangs gar nicht geplant. Ich endete gerade in einer Situation, die mich zwang, das zu tun. Der für das ganze Album geplante Sänger konnte nicht alle singen, aber nur zwei Songs davon. Ich ging an Glenn Hughes heran, aber er konnte nur drei Songs machen. Ich hatte noch 6 Songs übrig, so dass ich einen dritten Sänger fand. Ich mochte die Art, dieses Ansatzes, so dass ich einfach damit weitermachte.
Wie kamst du, zu solch großartigen Sängern wie Glenn Hughes, Göran Edman, Joe Lynn Turner oder Tony Harnell für deine Alben?
Ich habe für einige Zeit mit ihnen ziemlich gearbeitet, so dass es überhaupt nicht schwierig war - ich rief sie einfach an. Tony Harnell wurde von meiner Aufnahme Firma empfohlen. Er ist wirklich gut.
Du bist ein großartiger Gitarrist. Wie oft musstest du üben jeden Tag?
Als ich Jünger war, konnte ich 6 Stunden pro Tag spielen. Heute habe ich diese Zeit nicht. Ich übe einfach wenn ich Aufnahmen zu machen habe.
Ich sah, dass du auch Violine und Keyboard spielen kannst. Hast du noch andere Instrumente gelernt?
Ich spiele ein bisschen Bass Gitarre.
Du kommst ursprünglich aus Bulgarien. Seit du verheiratet bist und in Finnland lebst, wolltest du nie dorthin zurückziehen?
Ich habe ein Appartement in Bulgarien. Ich kann dort hingehen, wann immer ich möchte. Warum also umziehen? :-)
Was kannst du uns über die Rockszene in Bulgarien erzählen oder existiert dort keine?
Ich denke, es kommt mehr und mehr, aber sie brauchen einige Jahre, um in der Lage zu sein, mit anderen Ländern zu konkurrieren.
Was kommt dir in den Sinn, wenn du diese Wörter hörst:
-Melodikrock: Manchmal ein bisschen sleazy
-Europäische Union: Ziemlich gut für die schwächeren Länder
-Rockstar: Jemand, der sein Leben für Rock´n Roll opferte.
-großartige Gitarristen: Coole Jungs
-Fans: Leute, die uns die Chance geben, Musik zu machen.

-Verbrechen: Nicht notwendig, aber existiert leider

In den 90igern haben viele Bands ihren Musikstil geändert. Ich habe alle deine Alben und erkannt, dass du deinen nie verändert hast. Warum hast du es so geradlinig gemacht und durch die Jahre nie den Stil in Grunge, Alternative gewechselt?
Ich ziehe es einfach vor die Musik zu machen, in der ich gut bin. Dies ist nicht über Trends, es ist über musikalisches Können.
"Nostradamus" ist im Gegensatz zu deinen anderen Alben total verschieden. Was war der Grund diese Rockoper zu machen?
Es gibt mir eine Chance, mich auf eine Weise auszudrücken, die Brazon Abbot nicht erlauben würde.
Ich mag große Projekte. Nostradamus war eine perfekte Gelegenheit.
Du produzierst und mixt auch Albums von Saxon, Molly Hatchet und Anderen. Welches war dein Lustigstes Erlebnis, an das du dich erinnern kannst?
Sie waren alle sehr coole Jungs. Aber mit Rose Tattoo war es lustig zu arbeiten.
Lass uns jetzt über dein neues Album "My Resurrection" reden. Hier singen Turner, Edman, Harnell und Martensson. Wer entschied, wer zu welchem Song singt?
Ich habe es entschieden, seit ich sie sehr gut kannte und fühlte welcher Song zu wem passen würde.
Lässt du jeden, zu den Songs singen und entscheidest dann oder entscheidest du aus dem Bauch heraus?
Wir erörtern immer jeden Song im kleinsten Detail. Wir nehmen immer den besten Vorschlag/ Alternative.
Nach welchen Kriterien entscheidest du, welchen Sänger du für deine Songs nimmst und weißt du den Sänger dann schon?
Der Song ruft immer nach einem gewissen Sänger. Ich teile die Sänger entsprechend ihrem Gefühl, ihrem Bereich und ihrer technischen Fähigkeit zu.
Warum hast du dich zum ersten Mal entschieden ein Orchester zu nehmen?
Ich brauchte etwas Neues für dieses Album. Ich wollte, dass es modern, Heavy, Dark und melodisch klingt. Ich fühlte, dass ein Orchester ein guter Weg dazu ist.
Ich mag besonders die Songs "My Resurrection", "Bad Madman", "Flyin´Blind"
Ich sehe nicht wirklich ein Album als Anzahl von Songs an, ich sehe es mir als Ganzes an. Dieses Mal herum bat ich die Sänger darum, kein Liebeslied zu schreiben. Wir konzentrierten uns auf soziale, persönliche, philosophische Themen. Alle erwähnten Songs haben ihre Funktion im Album - sie erfüllen eine gewisse Aufgabe.
Welcher Song hat eine besondere Bedeutung für dich und warum?
Ich mag „The Shadows“. Es ist anders, ziemlich speziell. Ich habe auch die Liedtexte dazu geschrieben.

Da gibt es noch viele Dinge, die ich machen würde, aber ich würde sie nicht Träume nennen. Ich bin ziemlich zufrieden, mit dem was ich habe und wer ich bin….
Was passiert in der Zukunft?
Ich schreibe gerade an einer neuen Rockoper.
Können wir bald mit einer Tournee in Deutschland rechnen und werden alle Sänger dabei sein?
Wenn es eine Tour gibt, werde ich sie mit zwei Sängern machen.

Hello Nikolo. Give us a short description about your life?
I was born in Bulgaria, started playing violin at the age of five, went to
a music school for 5 years, Music Academy for four years and University
for one year, where I got my Master's degree in music.
I live in Finland since 1989 and that's where my recording studio is.
I produce for other people too.
Before you started Brazen Abbot, you were in the swedish Band Baltimoore.What do you think and want to tell us about this time?
We released two albums of good hard rock. Unfortunately we took different
paths due to personal differences.
In the meantime you have released six albums. What was the reason for
Well, it wasn't planned at all. I just ended up in a situation which
forced me to do that. The singer scheduled for the whole album couldn't do
all of it, but only two songs. I approached Glenn Hughes, but he could
only do three songs. I still had 6 songs left, so I found a third singer.
I kind of liked that approach, so I just carried on with it.
How does it come to get such great singers as Glenn Hughes, Göran Edman, Turner ect.?
I have worked with them for quite some time, so it was not difficult at
all - I simple called them. Tony Harnell was recommended by my record
company. He is really good.
You are a great guitarist. How many times did you have to practise every day?
When I was younger I could play 6 hours a day. Nowadys I don't have that
time. I simply practice when I have recordings to do.
I saw that you also can play violin and keyboards. Did you learn other
I play a bit of Bass guitar.
You come original from Bulgaria. Since you are married and live in Finland, did you never want to move back?
I have an appartment in Bulgaria, I can go there whenever I want.
Why moving? :-)
What can you tell us about the rockscene in Bulgaria or doesn´t exist
I think t is getting stronger and stronger, but they need a few years to
be able to compete with other countries.
What comes in your mind, when you here those words:
-Melodicrock: Sometimes a bit sleezy
-European Union: Quite good for the weaker countries.
-Rockstar: SOmeone who sacrificed his life for Rock'n Roll
-great guitarist: Cool guys
-Fans: People who give us the chance to make music

-Crime: Not necessary, but exists unfortunately

In the 90´s changed a lot of Bands their music style. I have all your albums and recognized that you never did it. Why you made it so straight and never wanted to chance into crunch, alternative through the years?
I simply prefer to make the music I am good at. This is not about trends,
it's about musicianship.
"Nostradamus" is totally different to the other albums before. What was
It gives me a chance to express myself in a way which Brazen Abbot
wouldn't allow. I like big projcts. Nostradamus was a perfect opportunity.
You always writing the music, producing, mixing, engineering and playing guitar as well on the albums. That sounds for me very exhausting. Was it always so easy for you to do it or do you have a secret?
It is not at all easy. I simply had to do it myself out of msny reasons -
musical,conceptual, financial etc.etc
You also produce and mix albums for Saxon, Molly Hatchet and others. Which one was the funniest you can remember?
They are all very cool guys. Rose Tattoo were fun to work with.
Let us talk now about your new album "My Resurrection". Here you let sing Turner, Edman, Harnell and Martensson. Who decide, who sing which song?
I decided that, since I knew them very well and felt wich song should go
to whom.
Do you let sing everyone to the songs and decide than or do you decide out of the belly?
We always discuss evey song in the smallest detail. We always go for the
better suggestion/alternative.
After which criteria you decide to take which singers sings for your songs and do you already now the singers than?
THe song always calls for a certain singer. I assign the singers according
to their feeling, range and technical ability.
Why did you decide to take an orchestra for the first time?
I needed something new for this album. I wanted it to sound modern, heavy,
dark and melodic. I felt that an orchestra is a good way to go.
Especially i like the songs "My Resurrection", "Bad Madman", "Flyin´Blind" and "Another Day Gone". What can you tell me about this songs?
I don't really look at an album as a number of songs, I look at it as a
whole. This time around I asked the singers not to write love lyrics. We
concentrated on social, personal, philosophical themes. All of the
mentioned songs are having their function in the album - they upfill a
certain assignment.
Which song has a special meaning for you and why?
I like The Shadows. It is different, quite special. I wrote the lyrics for
it too.

Good tasting, low carb, seafood, no sugar, lots of flavours, Chinese,
Thai, Asian....
Would you also cook or are you like the most mens who say that women belongs in the kitchen?
I am an excellent cook. Tasty food, nothing fancy. I am the King of
pancakes.
Do you still have a dream or something you did not done?
There are many things I would like to do, but I wouldn't call that dreams.
I am pretty satisfied with what I have and who I am...
What´s going on in the future?
I am writing a new rock opera.
Can we expect a tour in germany soon and will be all singers there?
If there will be a tour, I will do it with two singers.
